She has a dream. He has a plan. Together they’ll take a leap of faith.

Ren has never held an iPhone, googled the answer to a question, or followed a crush on social media. What she has done: Read a book or two, or three (okay, hundreds). Taught herself to paint. Built a working wind power system from scratch. But for all the books she’s read, Ren has never found one that’s taught a woman raised on a homestead and off the grid for most of her twenty-two years how to live in the real world. So when she finally achieves her lifelong dream of attending Corona College, it feels like her life is finally beginning.

Fitz has the rest of his life mapped out: Graduate from Corona at the top of his class, get his criminal record wiped clean, and pass himself off as the rich, handsome player everyone thinks he is. He’s a few short months from checking off step one of his plans when Ren Gylden, with her cascading blonde hair and encyclopedic brain, crashes into his life, and for the first time Fitz’s plan is in jeopardy.

But a simple assignment in their immunology seminar changes the course of both their lives, and suddenly they’re thrown out of the frying pan and into the fire on a road trip that will lead them in the most unexpected directions. Out on the open road, the world somehow shifts, and the unlikely pair realize that, maybe, the key to the dreams they’ve both been chasing have been sitting next to them the whole time.

  • All the Tropes: Like a good trope? This book is full of them. You have grumpy and sunshine, forced proximity, he falls first, one bed, and more. The great thing about the tropes the authors used is that it didn’t feel forced (which I hate). They didn’t use tropes just for the sake of tropes.
  • Fairytale Retelling: This book is a contemporary retelling of Tangled (Rapunzel). This is my favorite Disney movie, so it had big shoes to fill going in. I thought that it was the perfect representation of what Rapunzel and Flynn would be like in the modern world. I loved the integration of different aspects of the movie and the subtle details that only fans of the fairytale may pick up on.
  • No Spice: I honestly had to really think of anything negative, so we’re grasping at straws here. I do wish there was some spice. We get very little (just a make out sesh). But if I’m being honest it isn’t really missed.

This book is a modern retelling of Rapunzel and Flynn’s story in Tangled. Ren is a perfect representation of what Rapunzel would be like and Fitz is the perfect Flynn. I loved the way they were modernized and their personalities stayed true to the movie. The way the authors incorporated the different aspects of the movie were amazing. I loved that the Snuggly Duckling is included as a biker bar, Fitz’s car is named Max (after Maximus) and Ren is naive but brilliant. There is no spice, but honestly you don’t need it with how sweet Ren and Fitz’s love story is. Overall I am so happy I took a quick romantasy break to read this book. 100% recommend.
